TCL Fast Facts

Technical College of the Lowcountry (TCL), one of sixteen comprehensive two-year technical colleges in South Carolina, is a locally governed, publicly supported college with its main campus in Beaufort. The College traces its roots to the Mather School, established in 1868 by Rachel Crane Mather to educate the daughters of newly-freed slaves.

The College
With over 75 programs in some of the Lowcountry’s and the nation’s fastest growing career fields including nursing, web design, network engineering, paralegal, civil engineering and college transfer programs, the College offers programs for high school seniors, recent high school graduates as well as for individuals seeking to re-enter the workforce.

TCL offers a variety of educational options, including associate degree programs in technical and business areas, diploma programs and professional certificates. The College also offers transfer block programs and awards Associate of Arts or Associate in Science degrees, which may be transferred in full to any four-year public college or university in South Carolina and to many out of state. The variety of programs, small class sizes, and up-to-date technology provide students a competitive edge in securing a job. The local business people serving on TCL’s Advisory Committees ensure that TCL programs provide students with the skills that employers want. TCL’s comprehensive financial aid and student support programs put college within reach of any student who desires an education.

Impact
The College’s impact is multifaceted – serving as a catalyst in the economic development activities of our community; providing an affordable, accessible, and quality education to the citizens of our region; providing local businesses with consultation and workforce training; and serving as a vehicle for the betterment of a community that is diverse, growing and ever-changing.

A community that invests in its people is a community that ensures its future. As the community’s college in Beaufort, Colleton, Hampton and Jasper counties, the Technical College of the Lowcountry impacts the community every day through innovative programs, excellent instruction and active partnerships.
